Sewage backing up, flooding, or a burst drain pipe in Sale or M33? The first 30 minutes matter. Here's a step-by-step guide to staying safe and minimising damage while you wait for us.

A drain emergency is stressful. Sewage backing up into your home, water flooding your garden, or a burst pipe under your driveway — these situations feel overwhelming. But the actions you take in the first 30 minutes can significantly reduce the damage and the cost of repair.

Step 1: Stop Using Water Immediately (0–2 minutes)

If you have sewage backing up or flooding, stop using all water in the property immediately. Don't flush toilets, run taps, or use the washing machine. Every litre of water you add to the system makes the situation worse and increases the risk of sewage entering your home.

Step 2: Call Us (2–3 minutes)

Call M33 Drain Services on 07949 287 633. We operate 24/7 across Sale and M33 with an average response time of 45 minutes. Tell us your address, what you're seeing, and whether there's sewage inside the property — this helps us bring the right equipment.

Step 3: Protect Your Property (3–15 minutes)

  • Move valuables, furniture, and electrical items away from affected areas
  • Place towels or sandbags at doorways if water is approaching the property
  • Turn off electricity at the fuse box if water is near electrical sockets
  • Do not attempt to unblock the drain yourself — you may make it worse
  • Take photos and video of the damage for insurance purposes
Warning

Health Warning: Sewage contains harmful bacteria including E. coli and Salmonella. Do not touch sewage water with bare hands. Keep children and pets away from affected areas. If sewage has entered your home, ventilate the space and wash all surfaces with disinfectant after the drain is cleared.

Step 4: Contact Your Insurer (15–30 minutes)

Most home insurance policies cover drain emergencies and the resulting property damage. Call your insurer while you wait for us to arrive. They may have their own emergency drainage contractor, but you are entitled to use your own — and we can provide a full written report for your claim.
